A few big names are ready to make the weekend interesting at the Byron Nelson Championship. Matt Kuchar and Keegan Bradley both turned in strong second rounds and are in contention at the event after two rounds. There is still a lot of golf to be played, and Phil Mickelson is still lurking. However, Kuchar and Bradley have ensured that fans will have a couple of big names to follow over the weekend. Both are very intriguing, and both have a lot to gain by winning.
As a fan, I hope one of these two ends up on top of the field.
Kuchar is coming off of a win at the Players Championship, and winning two tournaments in a row is not easy. However, that almost puts a little pressure on Kuchar. He has the chance to accomplish a rare feat in golf. If he comes out on top at the Byron Nelson Championship, he would instantly become the frontrunner as the year's best player. Kuchar has already made a statement by playing well here, but a win will take him to a new level.
Bradley has even more to gain by winning. He won two events in 2011, including this one. However, he has not won anything so far in 2012. He would love to end that drought win a repeat victory here. In 2011, a win at the Byron Nelson helped launch Bradley toward a big summer and a major championship. Could history repeat itself? If he pulls off a victory, he will definitely have a ton of momentum for the rest of the season. A third win in in about a year would also ensure his status as one of the best golfers in the world.
There is a crowded group of contenders at this event, so it is more than possible that the winner will not be one of these two players. That said ,we should hope that one or both is still in the mix as the final round winds down. These are two of the most enjoyable players to watch, and a win here would increase their star power significantly. With so much to play for, I expect one of these two to come out on top.* - Mark Paul is an avid golf fan. He has watched and played the game since high school.
