Kazmir tries to eliminate telegraphing move
PHILADELPHIA – Tampa Bay Rays left-hander Scott Kazmir, the losing pitcher in Game 1 of the World Series, has adjusted his mechanics slightly to better control the Philadelphia Phillies' running game.
Kazmir, due to start Game 5 on Monday night at Citizens Bank Park against Phillies ace Cole Hamels, has been telegraphing his move to the plate by lowering his head just prior to delivering his pitch. On direction from first-base coach Davey Lopes, who spotted the flaw, Phillies baserunners turned walking leads into huge jumps in Game 1.
Between starts, Kazmir worked on varying the look he'll give while holding runners at first and second.
The Phillies, third in the National League in stolen bases, have stolen 12 bases in the postseason, five in the World Series.
