Kansas City Royals at Cleveland Indians, September 28, 2012: Fan Preview

Yahoo Contributor Network

The age of Manny Acta as skipper of the Cleveland Indians came to an end on Thursday, September 27 as the front office informed him his services were no longer needed. Bench coach and fan favorite Sandy Alomar Jr. was given the reigns to the team for the remaining six games of the season.

The firing of Acta was an expected casualty that came with the disappointing season the Tribe had this year. While they looked strong through most of the first half, their second-half meltdown left everyone shaking their heads in disbelief. Some argue the team was set up to fail, as the only efforts to improve the team after last season were a collection of "he could work" players signed to minor league contracts during the offseason. When no moves were made at the trade deadline fans started believing the worst. That belief soon turned into a reality.

As the team returns home for the final six games of the season, it will be interesting to see how well (or how poorly) they perform. It is frustrating that each game has become a toss-up due to inconsistency, especially with pitching. Fans can only hope there is a plan in place this offseason so next year is not filled with as much disappointment.
