The Kansas City Royals had another disappointing season in 2012, leaving fans to wonder if they will ever have another winning record.
Here is a list of the team's free agents:
Pitchers
Jeremy Guthrie -- Guthrie is not expected to be re-signed by the Royals. He came to the club at midseason from Colorado. While he had a winning 5-3 record with the team, his lifetime record is 55-77 with a high ERA of 4.28. It's a good decision to let Guthrie go.
Joakim Soria -- Soria didn't play at all in 2012 as a result of having surgery on his pitching arm. The Royals have the choice of signing Soria next season or buying out the remainder of his contract. I think that the team is better off not taking a chance on the health of this pitcher.
Outfield
Mitch Maier -- Maier is a free agent and has been released by the team. His batting average for the season was a way-too-low .172.

I am a lifetime fan of the Royals. I remember the days in the 1970s and '80s when the Royals were one of the best teams in baseball.
