The Kansas City Chiefs lost starting right tackle Donald Stephenson to a four-game suspension. How will they replace him? I see a few options.
The Chiefs signed him just a few weeks ago on the day training camp started. He's a former starter for the Broncos but his injury history would concern you. Harris isn't ideal as a starter right now but he looks like the first man up based on how the Chiefs have lined up in training camp and the preseason games.
He came to the Chiefs as a guard / tackle, which Andy Reid mentioned the other day. I thought his spot on the roster would be as a reserve guard but he becomes a right tackle candidate with Stephenson's suspension.
A journeyman offensive lineman, McKee jus got back into football this summer. He has received a decent number of snaps over the Chiefs last two preseason games so he's in the mix.
He looked like a candidate for the third tackle position this offseason but he has seemingly been passed up by others. He had just five snaps in the first preseason game and didn't play at all in the second preseason game.
This is a bit of a wild card considering Jeff Allen is the Chiefs starting left guard. But the team has put him at tackle during some training camp practices. That was likely for emergency situations but I wonder if this would be a serious consideration or not.
Free agent / Trade
Roster cuts will be coming at the end of this month, which means a lot of new players will be on the open market. I could easily see the Chiefs signing another tackle during that period. The Chiefs also just traded Rishaw Johnson
to the Buccaneers on Thursday. I could see them making a trade for tackle help, too.
