Jamaal Charles had a big day, paving the way to a rout for the Chiefs over the hapless Raiders, 56-31, at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.
A superb performance for Alex Smith was capped by five touchdowns on 17 of 20 passing for 287 yards and one fumble. For the Raiders, Matt McGloin could not keep pace, going 18 of 36 with 297 yards passing, two touchdowns, four picks and one fumble.
Charles was a key factor for the Chiefs, running all over the Raiders for 20 yards on eight carries with a touchdown while adding eight receptions for 195 yards and another four scores. In the first quarter, he got open for a 39-yard catch for a score. Sean McGrath caught two balls for 14 yards with a touchdown.
The Kansas City defense also played a key role in the victory, forcing five interceptions while bringing back one interception for a touchdown.
Raiders running back Rashad Jennings had a big day with 91 yards rushing, 12 receiving and two touchdowns. Tight end Mychal Rivera also had a noteworthy performance with 30 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Next week, the Chiefs are at home against the Colts (9-5) while the Raiders travel to San Diego to face the Chargers (7-7).
