Kamara returns to Sporting KC after Norwich passes on purchase

Norwich City's latest personnel decision is Sporting Kansas City's gain.

The Canaries announced Saturday that they have elected not to purchase Kei Kamara's contract outright from Sporting KC, and the forward's loan spell with the club has come to an end as he returns to Major League Soccer with immediate effect after three months in the Premier League. The teams had prearranged a fee for a permanent transfer should Norwich City want to hold onto the 28-year-old Sierra Leone international.

Kamara made 11 appearances during his spell with Norwich City, scoring his lone goal in a 2-1 win over Everton on Feb. 23. He played the final 18 minutes in the club's 2-1 loss to Aston Villa on Saturday for his last appearance with the Carrow Road outfit, and he rejoins a Sporting KC side that has found its footing after an uneven start and sits on 14 points through nine games.

The club had prepared for Kamara's departure by beefing up its attack with offseason signings of Designated Player striker Claudio Bieler and U.S. international midfielder Benny Feilhaber. Even so, it will happily welcome Kamara, who had a career-high 11 goals and eight assists last season, back into the fold barring another outbound transfer once the European window opens this summer.
