Juventus striker Alessandro Matri has said rumors that he is set to leave the club are “absurd”.
The 28-year-old's future was called into question after the Serie A champion announced a deal to sign Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente in the summer.
However Matri has said he finds competition for places healthy, and added that it will benefit the club as a whole.
“The transfer rumors about me are absurd. I find the competition for places here very stimulating,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “I still have four years left on my contract [until June 2017] and I have always felt the backing of the club.”
The former Cagliari man also admitted he dreams of making himself a Juventus hero in the Champions League and revealed his ambitions to star for Italy at next summer’s World Cup.
“It’s also my dream to score a decisive goal in the Champions League seeing as I have yet to net in that competition. I’m hoping to find some space with the national side again as I want to be at the World Cup in Brazil.”
Matri has scored five goals in 12 games for Antonio Conte’s side this season.
