Justin Scoggins vs. John Moraga Added as UFC Fight Night 50 Main Card Opener

A flyweight bout between Justin Scoggins and John Moraga has been added to the Sept. 5 fight card at UFC Fight Night 50 in Ledyard, Conn.

UFC officials on Saturday confirmed the bout had been verbally agreed to, and would also serve as the main card opener at the Foxwoods Casino.

Scoggins and Moraga are two of the top fighters in the 125-pound class, but both are coming off of losses and looking to get back on the winning track.

Scoggins (9-1) had his undefeated streak disrupted by a recent loss to Dustin Ortiz on The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale on July 6, part of the UFC’s double-decker weekend. It was a close fight, but in the end, the judges gave a split-decision nod to Ortiz.

Moraga (14-3) is coming off of a loss to John Dodson, the current No. 1 contender to champion Demetrious Johnson. Moraga’s only other loss in the Octagon was to Johnson, so even if he gets a win over Scoggins, he likely faces a long road back to a title fight.

UFC Fight Night Foxwoods is headlined by a pivotal middleweight showdown between Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Gegard Mousasi.
