Justin Gabriel was once considered to be high on the list of wrestlers that were "the next big thing" in the WWE. His entrance into WWE living rooms started on WWE NXT season one and then exploded with his alliance to The Nexus and The Corre. These super groups certainly helped Justin get noticed at first but eventually they would be a hindrance. With all the talent and story lines that developed around those factions, it became very easy to get lost in the crowd. That is how I would describe Justin the last several months. Wrestling fans love it when he comes on and wrestles, but he has not been given enough exposure to gain widespread notoriety. With a huge win over the United States Champion Antonio Cesaro, that all might be about to change.
The Big Win For Gabriel
Justin Gabriel had faced Antonio Cesaro the week prior and just came away with a loss to the Champion. He just barely missed his famous 450 finisher and ended up losing to the brutish brawler. In a rematch, however, the electric Gabriel managed to nail his finisher and pin Cesaro cleanly to the mat for the count of three. Unfortunately it was a non-title bout. On the bright side, it virtually guarantees Justin a shot at the belt down the road. That shot is long over due in my eyes.
Could Gabriel Be Championship Material?
With the right amount of work, he absolutely could be champion. In fact, I think he will be. The one unknown for most WWE fans is his mic work. Most fans have never heard Justin cut a promo. They will be pleasantly surprised when he is afforded that opportunity. At this point, just having Justin joining into a title hunt is huge news. A program that lasts with Cesaro could be a huge boost to Gabriel's career, even if he does not secure the title the first time around.
While Justin Gabriel is not a current champion in the world of professional wrestling, he is knocking on the door. It is only a matter of time before this young man is a big part of the title scene. His talent in the ring is simply too good to deny and I will be happy when the rest of WWE creative realizes the same thing.
*Southern is a huge WWE fan that knows it is not real and loves it anyway. He still believes in the Divas, tag team wrestling and the old school NWA way of doing things in the squared circle.
