June Second Baseman Rankings
Welcome to the June second baseman rankings update. Players are ranked for the rest of the season based on a 5x5 scoring format. Included along with the position rankings is an updated top 300. Players are listed wherever they’re most valuable, so if you don’t see that third baseman you’re looking for, he’s probably listed at second or short.

o The second 10 here is still quite a mess, with the veterans providing mediocre production and the youngsters failing to step up. Paredes has been the big success story, but he still swings at way too many bad pitches and he doesn’t have defense to fall back on if he goes into a slump.
o Odor already seemed likely to return to the majors in short order after the Rangers’ decision to designate Tommy Field for assignment last week. Now he pretty much has to come up with Adrian Beltre (thumb) down. An alternative at second base would be to give Delino DeShields Jr. an extended shot at the position, but he was moved to the outfield in the minors for good reason. Besides, DeShields is still a poor bet to hit, even after his terrific May. Odor has hit .283/.368/.633 with five homers in 17 games since being sent down. He’s struck out just seven times.
o Gyorko is still playing only against lefties at the moment, but he moves back up some this month after coming in at .281/.359/.456 in May. I’m not a big fan, but I do think he’s a better second base option than Spangenberg for the Padres. The complicating factor there is that Solarte is about to be pushed off first base by Yonder Alonso’s return, adding more competition for at-bats at second and third.
