An official lays motionless after Mount San Antonio College offensive lineman Bernard Schirmer punched him during a skirmish.

We’ve seen a lot of personal foul penalties already this season, but nothing compares to what happened during Ventura College’s 34-29 win against Mount San Antonio College on Saturday.

Mt. SAC offensive lineman Bernard Schirmer was accused of assault and arrested after punching an official who was trying to break up a skirmish near the end zone.

Schirmer, who was immediately ejected from the game, was arrested on suspicion of battery and taken to Ventura County jail, Sgt. Mike Pallotto of the Ventura College Police Department told the Ventura County Star.

The injured official was treated by trainers from both teams and helped off the field. He did not return to the game.

“I shook his hand when he was coming off and I asked him if he was OK,” Ventura College head coach Steve Mooshagian told the Ventura County Star. “He looked like he was a little drowsy.”

According to the paper, striking a game official is punishable by a five-year ban under the California Community College Athletic Association bylaws.
