Jose Mourinho hit with FA fine

Jose Mourinho has been fined 10,000 pounds by the Football Association for comments made following Chelsea's defeat to Sunderland.

Chelsea boss Mourinho offered his congratulations to referee Mike Dean for an "unbelievable" performance after Fabio Borini's penalty gave Sunderland a shock 2-1 Premier League win at Stamford Bridge last month.

The FA found the comments did not question the integrity of Dean or referees' chief Mike Riley, who he also praised after the game, but "brought the game into disrepute" while "the charge for improper conduct was found proven".

The Chelsea boss has also had his appeal for a fine of 8,000 pounds following an incident against Aston Villa rejected.

Following another Chelsea loss, Mourinho entered the field of play and was found guilty of "approaching the match referee in an attempt to speak to him".

"The charge was found proven by an Independent Regulatory Commission and that decision was upheld by an Appeal Panel on Thursday," the FA said in a statement.

Mourinho's assistant Rui Faria and midfielder Ramires were also the subject of FA punishments during the Sunderland match in a game that saw Chelsea's title bid dented.

Faria had to be restrained by Mourinho on the touch line following the award of the penalty and was banned for six matches while Ramires was suspended for four games after kicking Sunderland midfielder Sebastian Larsson.
