Jose Aldo's Controversial Out-of-Competition Drug Test Comes Back Clean
Following a bit of controversy surrounding the collection of an out-of-competition drug test sample, Jose Aldo has returned a clean drug test result.
The test was relegated somewhat moot after Aldo had to drop out of the UFC 189 main event opposite Conor McGregor due to a rib injury. The results could, however, quiet some critics who claimed the test might have had something to do with Aldo dropping out.

The controversy centered on an agent, Ben Mosier from Drug Free Sport, collecting a sample from Aldo on behalf of the Nevada Athletic Commission. He initially collected a sample on Thursday, June 11, but the sample was thrown out when authorities in Brazil determined Mosier did not have the proper work visa to be conduction business in the country.
Aldo again submitted to a sample collection on Friday, June 12. That sample was reportedly collected by a World Anti-Doping Accredited agent, who was accompanied by an official from the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission.
The results of that collection were made public on Monday by Globo.com.
Sports Medicine Research and Testing in Salt Lake City processed the sample, which it says was analyzed for anabolic agents, peptide hormones, growth factors and related substances, Beta-2 Agonists, hormone and metabolic modulators, and diuretics and other masking agents.
Aldo’s SMRTL test results were reported to Christopher Eccles, a Nevada deputy attorney general, detecting “no prohibited substance(s) or prohibited method(s), or their metabolite(s) or marker(s).”
After Aldo withdrew from the fight due to injury, the UFC enlisted Chad Mendes to face McGregor for the promotion’s interim featherweight championship in the UFC 189 main event.
