Jonathan Singleton: Astros Prospect Gets 50-Game Suspension

Rotowire.com
Update: Singleton was suspended for 50 games for violating minor league baseball's drug policy, ESPN.com reports. Singleton apologized in a statement and doesn't plan to appeal the suspension.

Recommendation: Singleton, who Baseball America rated the Astros' second-best prospect in the organization behind 2012 No. 1 overall draft pick Carlos Correa, was expected to open the season at Triple-A and potentially reach the big leagues as a September callup. Instead, it wouldn't surprise if the 50-game ban now delays Singleton's arrival to the majors until 2014. Singleton will turn just 21 in September, so the potential setback in development, while significant, is not debilitating.
