RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) -- Tarius Johnson and Glenn Cosey scored 14 points apiece to lead a balanced Eastern Kentucky offensive attack as the Colonels held off Tennessee State for a 70-66 win on Saturday night.
Orlando Williams added 11 points while Corey Walden finished with seven and 10 rebounds for Eastern Kentucky (21-9, 11-5 Ohio Valley).
The Colonels jumped out to a 16-4 lead as Johnson scored seven points in the first 5:33 and Tennessee State (5-24, 4-12) went 1 for 7 from the field with two turnovers during that span.
EKU led 29-18 after Timmy Knipp's 3 with 3:55 before the half but the Tigers used an 11-2 run that bridged the two halves to pull within two, 31-29, with 18:34 remaining.
A layup by Jay Harris with 6:52 left gave the Tigers their only lead of the game, 53-52, before a 15-4 spurt gave EKU a 10-point lead with 3 minutes to go.
