The Washington Wizards picked up the victory due in large part to their efficiency handling the basketball, accumulating 22 assists and turning it over only six times, to beat the Portland Trail Blazers, 100-90. Washington (24-23) has now won back-to-back games after defeating Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday.
John Wall scored 22 points on 7-15 shooting from the field (2-4 from behind the arc) and 6-6 from the free throw line. He added 5 assists and 3 steals also. Other top performers for Washington were Trevor Ariza with 20 points and 5 rebounds, Nene Hilario with 13 points and 7 rebounds, and Bradley Beal with 13 points and 6 assists. Damian Lillard had another strong performance for Portland despite the loss, putting up 25 points on 8-19 shooting (2-7 on 3-point attempts), in addition to going 7-7 from the free throw line. He also registered 8 assists and 6 rebounds. LaMarcus Aldridge added 20 points and 10 rebounds and Robin Lopez finished with 12 points and 9 rebounds.
After putting up a sparkling assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.67, the Wizards are undefeated (5-0) on the season when eclipsing 2.50 in this category. However, the Trail Blazers are 6-2 when allowing their opponents to achieve such a lofty ratio.
Portland (34-14) couldn't get consecutive victories after beating Toronto on Saturday.
