Aron Johannsson made quite the first impression for new club manager Dick Advocaat.
Fresh off scoring his first goal with the U.S. national team against Panama on Tuesday, Johannsson picked up where he left off with AZ Alkmaar, scoring his sixth and seventh league goals of the season and assisting on another in AZ's 3-1 win over SC Cambuur Sunday in what was Advocaat's first game on the bench.
With AZ trailing after conceding a sixth-minute goal, Johannsson helped pull his side level. On a breakaway, Johannsson slotted a ball to his right for Roy Beerens, who scored in the 35th minute. Johannsson then put his side ahead eight minutes later, settling a flicked-on header inside the box and finishing from close range.
Johannsson netted an insurance goal in the 68th minute to seal the points. Off a quick restart, Johannsson held his run, received a pass in the area and cut back on a defender, causing him to slide to ground. With the space he created for himself, Johannsson then rifled a right-footed shot into the far upper corner.
With the brace, Johannsson now has 11 goals in all competitions, rapidly approaching his personal best of 17 goals, a mark that he set last season playing for both AGF Aarhus and AZ.
