Brazil striker Jo has vowed to repay the faith being shown in him by coach Luiz Felipe Scolari.
On Monday, the 26-year-old Atletico Mineiro striker was one of three domestic-based players confirmed to have made the squad for March’s Gillette Brasil Global Tour clash with South Africa in Johannesburg on March 5.
The former Manchester City and Everton striker said he is delited to retain his place in what will be the last Brazil squad prior to Felipao revealing the final 23 that will appear at this year’s World Cup.
"I was very happy when I saw the news,” Jo said. “I hope to show on the field the confidence that the coach is showing in me.
“This friendly will be very important in shaping the group that will defend Brazil at the World Cup… but nothing is guaranteed.”
Fluminense striker Fred was also recalled to the squad after overcoming his injury problems, as was Botafogo goalkeeper Jefferson.
"Every call-up gives me butterflies in my stomach," said Jefferson, who returns after missing out on the November friendlies with Honduras and Chile. "I'm very glad for another call-up. It's like a wedding: We had been dating, then got engaged, and now hopefully it will turn into a marriage."
