Bengals sign OLB Maybin

The Jets brought back one pass rusher, and let another one test free agency, but it remains a need this offseason. Aaron Maybin, the team's leader with six sacks last season, received a first-round tender from the Jets, though Maybin had only 11 total tackles and is not an every-down player. Jamaal Westerman, who was once thought to be a potential answer coming off the edge, was not tendered and signed with Miami.

The last double-digit sack man for the Jets was John Abraham in 2005. The Jets could address the need in the draft with the No. 16 overall pick, especially if Alabama's Courtney Upshaw or South Carolina's Melvin Ingram drops that far. In free agency, visits thus far to Florham Park have focused on wide receivers, safeties and backup quarterbacks.

One option who's already on the team who could help might be LB Bart Scott, though he is a candidate to be traded after being frustrated with his role on the team. One daily team observer believes that Scott will remain with the Jets and could be used more as a pass rusher on third downs because he is an effective blitzer. Scott was often on the sideline on third down last season in favor of a blitzing defensive back.
