Jets TE Winslow charged with pot possession

New York Jets tight end Kellen Winslow faces charges of synthetic marijuana possession, according to East Hanover (N.J.) police.

Winslow's Nov. 19 arrest for possession of Fubinaca came eight days after his four-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance enhancing substances ended.

The charge is a third-degree offense and, if convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. He appeared in court in Morristown, N.J., on Dec. 30.

"We are aware of the situation," Jets spokesman Bruce Speight said Thursday. "This is a pending legal matter and we will have no comment."

The 30-year-old Winslow, an impending free agent, finished the 2013 season with 31 catches for 388 yards and two touchdowns.

His NFL career began with the Cleveland Browns in 2004. Winslow also was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New England Patriots before coming to the Jets in 2013.
