Jets sign LB Barnes to three-year contract

Outside linebacker Antwan Barnes, who played the past three seasons with the San Diego Chargers, signed a free agent deal with the New York Jets.

According to multiple media reports, the three-year contract is worth $4 million, including $1.65 million for 2013, counting the signing bonus. ESPN.com reported that Barnes' $1.2 million salaries for 2014 and 2015 could rise as high as $2 million per season due to escalator clauses.

Barnes, 28, played 11 games for San Diego in 2012, compiling three sacks and nine total tackles. He had career highs with 11 sacks and 41 tackles over 16 games in 2011.

Barnes spent three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, and he was briefly with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2010 before moving to San Diego.

The Jets also re-signed long snapper Tanner Purdum.

Purdum, 28, appeared in every game for New York over the past three seasons.
