Jets owner says Romney victory more important than winning season
Although New York Jets owner Woody Johnson called the Jets performance in the 34-0 loss to San Francisco "absolutely unacceptable," he said during the same interview on Monday that having Mitt Romney win the presidential election is more important than the Jets having a winning record.
Johnson is the New York chairman for the Romney campaign, and he said in an interview with Bloomberg Television that if he were forced to pick between a winning season for the Jets and a winning campaign for Romney, he's take Romney.
"Well, I think you always have to put country first," Johnson said. "So I think it's very, very important, not only for us but in particular for our kids and grandkids that this election come off with Mitt Romney and [Paul] Ryan as president and vice president."
Regarding the Jets' Sunday performance, Johnson said in the Bloomberg interview, according to the New York Daily News, "The coach and the coaches and I are not happy with what happened yesterday. And the players aren't either. That performance is absolutely unacceptable."
Johnson supported coach Rex Ryan's statement that Mark Sanchez should remain the Jets' starting quarterback.
"No, it doesn't mean Tim Tebow's starting next week," Johnson said. "But it's a question that's going to be asked more frequently if this progresses."
