Jets LB Thomas applies for probation program
New York Jets linebacker Bryan Thomas applied for admission into a special probation program to resolve charges of assaulting his wife and possessing painkillers and marijuana paraphernalia, the Daily Record of New Jersey reported Tuesday.
The 33-year-old was charged Oct. 31 in Randolph, New Jersey, with aggravated assault. The linebacker pushed his wife with a kitchen chair, punched her in the stomach, and grabbed her by the neck, causing pain and marks on her body, according to a report.
Thomas posted $2,500 bail after the arrest. He was also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of 20 tablets of suspected hydrocodone.
Thomas applied for admission to Morris County's Pre-Trial Intervention program for first-time offenders, through well-known New York attorney Joseph Tacopina. The charges will be dismissed and stricken from Thomas' criminal record if he successfully completes a period of probation and other conditions.
The linebacker is scheduled to appear in Superior Court on Feb. 5.
