Jets LB Pace suggests team tried to injure Bush

ESPN reported Monday that New York Jets linebacker Calvin Pace is not expected to be disciplined by the NFL for comments he made suggesting that the team intentionally tried to injure Miami Dolphins running back Reggie Bush.

Bush injured his left knee when it struck a helmet while being tackled by a group of Jets with 23 seconds left in the second quarter of the Dolphins' 23-20 overtime loss to the Jets on Sunday.

He did not return to the game.

"I guess he was doing his thing for a quarter or two," Pace told the New York Daily News. "We had to put him on out. We didn't see him again."

Bush found out Monday that there is no structural damage to the knee and that he could return this weekend.

Last week, Jets coach Rex Ryan said, "Obviously we have to do a great job of getting a lot of guys to (Bush) and then get him on the ground. Put some hot sauce on him, if you will."

Pace's and Ryan's comments caused a stir in light of the New Orleans Saints' "bounty" scandal that led to several suspensions involving players, coaches and front office management. The players' suspensions were overturned earlier this month by a three-person judicial panel.
