Jets GM open to possibilities

The SportsXchange

New York Jets general manager John Idzik would not hesitate to trade down or consider the possibility of taking quarterback in the NFL Draft.

The first-year Jets GM is keeping his options open on the eve of the draft as he figures out how to fill holes on the roster. He says he has taken calls from teams interested in moving up int he order on Thursday night in the first round.

"I think the real substantive talks will come tomorrow," Idzik said, according to ESPN.com. "I think we're in a position at No. 9 and No. 13 in the first round to get two really good players, but it also opens up the gates for potential alternatives, potentially trading down and picking up more players. We'll be open minded about it. This is a very deep draft."

As for which players the Jets might target in the draft, Idzik wouldn't tip his hand.

"We would not be adverse to picking any player if our evaluation determines that is the best talent available when we pick," he told ESPN.

Reports indicate that if the Jets decide to address their quarterback situation, they might be interested in Syracuse's Ryan Nassib, though it might be a stretch to take him with the No. 9 or 13 pick in the first round. He worked out for offensive coordinator Marty Morninwheg, who thinks Nassib would be suited to effectively run the West Coast offense that Morninwheg is installing this year.

According to reports, the Buffalo Bills are also interested in Nassib, The Bills pick No. 8 in the first round, but if they decide to trade down, they're concerned that the Jets might grab Nassib ahead of them.
