Jets hire Idzik as GM

The Jets have restructured the contract of DE Mike DeVito, lowering his base salary but adding bonuses to his deal.

DeVito had been slated to earn $2.26 million in base salary in 2012, the final year of his deal. Instead, his salary was dropped to $700,000. The contract is fully guaranteed.

Additionally, he will earn a $350,000 workout bonus and a $950,000 signing bonus, along with a $500,000 roster bonus he has already received. In total, his compensation for this season will be $2.5 million.

Set to enter his sixth season with the team, DeVito is a strong run stopper who has made 93 tackles over the past two seasons. He has started 22 games in that time span, but his first-string job may be gone following the Jets’ selection of DE Quinton Coples in the first round of the NFL draft last month.
