Breaking News:

Jets bench Hunter, work out McNeill

National Football Post

The New York Jets appear to be a mess at right tackle, enough so that the team worked out former Chargers tackle Marcus McNeill, according to Rich Cimini of

McNeill recently retired from the NFL, and though no signing is imminent, the Jets apparently think McNeill might be a better option than Wayne Hunter, who was benched.

Jets coach Rex Ryan whistled through the graveyard on the subject, saying, "I'm thinking we're OK."

General manager Mike Tannenbaum said on WFAN via Cimini that right tackle was "a position we're going to keep looking at."

For now Austin Howard is the starter, but as long as the Jets are looking at retired tackles, they might want to see if perhaps Ron Yary or Jackie Slater might be interested in playing for them.
