Jets' Ryan takes cover as speakers malfunction

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -- The sinking New York Jets have Rex Ryan ducking for cover these days.

The oft-criticized coach was in the middle of answering a question during his news conference Wednesday when the speakers in the press room at the team's facility malfunctioned and crackled loudly, sounding like fireworks. The sudden outburst startled Ryan and the media assembled in front of him.

A smiling Ryan ducked a few times behind the podium before looking at the cameras and joking, ''I know, we're on a three-game losing streak. I understand. ... Wow. Not a good product, so ... ''

Ryan quickly gathered himself and finished answering the question, the final one of his news conference, while the speakers continued to pop.

The Jets (5-7) host the Oakland Raiders (4-8) on Sunday.
