Jeter activated, in lineup Monday night

The SportsXchange

The New York Yankees have activated shortstop Derek Jeter from the disabled list, and the Yankees captain will be in the lineup Monday night against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 39-year-old Jeter has missed the past three weeks with a strained right calf. He has played in only five games this season.

Jeter missed the first 91 games of the season while recovering from a broken ankle suffered in the 2012 American League Championship Series. In his return on July 11, he injured his right quadriceps against Kansas City. He sat out two weeks before returning for a handful of games before going back on the DL.

Jeter is 4-for-19 this season with one home run and two RBIs. The Yankees optioned pitcher Preston Clairborne to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to make room on the roster for Jeter.

Monday's game marks the first time Jeter and Alex Rodriguez will play together this season.
