Jerry Reese has done enough to get Victor Cruz’s hopes up, at least a little.
The New York Giants general manager said it is a possibility the club could work out a new contract for the wide receiver before the end of the season when Cruz will become a restricted free agent. Obviously, there isn’t a rush from the team’s standpoint because it can control Cruz heading into 2013, but those situations can become sticky as we’ve witnessed in Pittsburgh with another young wide receiver Mike Wallace. It could happen. All those options are open," Reese said, according to Jorge Castillo of the Newark Star-Ledger. "I just think Victor is focused on being a good football player again. The contract situation will take care of itself."
Cruz has shied away from talk about a contract and seems to be doing all the right things. Perhaps a contract will materialize for him.
