One of the multitude of transactions in the Arena Football League on April 16 involved the Spokane Shock placing Jeremy Geathers on the Other League Exempt list. Jared Frank of SWXRightNow.com is reporting that the roster move was made so that Geathers can join the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League.
The 6-foot-3, 255-pound defensive lineman will be making his third trip north of the border to attend Lions training camp, having previously participated in 2010 and 2011. According to the Lions' website, he'll be joining former Shock DL Khreem Smith in camp.
In 22 career games in the Arena Football League, Geathers has racked up a total of 13 sacks after registering 11 sacks during his two-year career at UNLV . At Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas, he posted 7.5 sacks in one season before moving on to the Rebels.
He signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2008, and after healing from a thigh injury, Geathers joined the Shock in 2010. In nine regular season games for Spokane, he registered 19.5 tackles and four sacks. He added two more sacks to his total during the playoffs, which culminated in the Shock's ArenaBowl XXIII title.
He played five games for the Chicago Rush in 2011, tallying six tackles and a sack, and so far in five games with the Shock in 2012, he leads the team with six sacks for a loss of 39 yards. He has also recorded two safeties, two forced fumbles, two quarterback hurries, and 7.5 tackles.
Workouts for the 2012 BC Lions begin April 21.
