Jason Vargas surrenders four runs in loss vs. Tigers
Royals pitcher Jason Vargas took a loss Tuesday, giving up four earned runs on six hits and three walks in 5 1/3 innings while striking out six in his team's 4-2 defeat against the Tigers.
Vargas (11-8) allowed a run on a sacrifice fly in the first inning, and the Tigers were able to tack on two runs on a second-inning blast and another run on a solo home run in the fifth. Vargas had allowed just one home run in his last nine starts before the Tigers smacked two Tuesday. He owns a 3.25 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 118:37 K:BB ratio in 174 1/3 innings. Vargas is slated to face the Red Sox Sunday.
