Jason Spezza: (Back) Surgery On Tap

Rotowire.com
Update: Spezza has been diagnosed with a herniated disc in his back that will require surgery to repair, Wayne Scanlan of the Ottawa Citizen reports. Spezza is out indefinitely, but GM Bryan Murray hopes he will be able to play again before the end of the season.

Recommendation: The Senators were hoping a few games off would be all Spezza needed, but it turns out his injury was much more significant than it originally appeared. While Spezza has not been ruled out for the season, it's likely that he won't be back on the ice until sometime in late March at the earliest. Expect Kyle Turris, who has centered the top line the last couple games, to remain the Senators' top-line center in Spezza's absence. Though Spezza could return later this season, this is a tough blow to the Senators and fantasy owners alike.
