Jason Smith registered his second double-double this season, scoring 22 points and registering 16 rebounds, to help the New Orleans Pelicans pull out a close one against the Detroit Pistons, 111-106. The Pelicans shot 38-84 (45.2%) from the field and dominated the offensive glass, pulling down 16 boards. New Orleans (10-10) gets one in the win column after losing to Oklahoma City on Friday.
Smith finished 8-14 and converted 6-8 from the free throw line. New Orleans also got solid performances from Jrue Holiday with 19 points and 8 assists, Eric Gordon with 14 points and 6 assists, and Tyreke Evans with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Greg Monroe had a big game for Detroit in the loss, putting up 28 points on 13-22 shooting from the field and 2-7 from the free throw line. He also recorded 10 rebounds. Brandon Jennings added 25 points and 6 steals, Josh Smith finished with 11 points and 5 rebounds, and Andre Drummond put up 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Detroit (10-13) has now lost three in a row.
