With everything getting underway in the young NFL season, the honeymoon phase for the Green Bay Packers and tight end Jared Cook has started well.

Cook has been impressed with his quarterback Aaron Rodgers, while Rodgers and head coach Mike McCarthy have been impressed with the athleticism of Cook.

The first impression for Cook is the play of Rodgers. Cook is probably feeling much like every fan that has seen a high profile player play on television and is impressed by what they see. However, that perception changes when you actually see up-close and in-person the depth of their talent.

“Now that I’m here to see it in-person in practice, it’s even more incredible,” said Cook during the first public practice on Tuesday. “I find myself still in awe of some of the things he does.”

One of the main reasons the Packers brought Cook in was to stretch the field and have a more balanced passing attack. That plan seems to be on the right track with the Packers thoughts when they signed Cook. His speed, hands and athleticism are all as good as initially advertised and Rodgers has taken note.

“It’s been fun to get to know him,” Rodgers said of Cook. “Jared brings a good skill set to that group. Richard [Rodgers] was very consistent for us last year. He’s great at a lot of things. Jared is able to stretch the field a little bit with his extra speed.”

With a better quarterback and team, Cook can finally have the success that has eluded since being drafted in 2009. Cook also sees this opportunity as a time to grow and be successful since he is a player that has never played in the playoffs. In fact, the Packers’ success and organization is what lead him to the team.

“They stress the details here,” Cook said. “I’m getting used to that stuff. I guarantee you a lot of these guys can teach me a few things on ways of longevity and postseason play, and striving for greatness.”

“I look at it as a clean slate, a fresh start and a new piece of paper to write a story on,” Cook continued “I’m excited for the opportunity that’s ahead of me and I’m going to do the best I can.”

Everything on paper matches up for a Cook to be a success story for the Packers. We’ve got a long way to go before the season but for now, Cook is starting his Green Bay tenure on the right foot.
