BREAKING:

James Shields: Traded to Kansas City

Rotowire.com
Update: Shields has been traded to Kansas City as part of a trade that will send Wil Myers to Tampa Bay, Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports. The Royals also will receive pitcher Wade Davis and a player to be named or cash from Tampa Bay, while the Rays will receive Jake Odorizzi, Mike Montgomery and another prospect.

Recommendation: Providing a much needed ace capable of racking up a high innings count, Shields should provide a big boost to the Royals' pitching staff in 2013 and 2014, but how Myers develops as a big league hitter will ultimately determine if this trade works for both sides, or if one team is a clear winner. Shields moves into a weaker division by going to the AL Central, while he will remain in a pitcher-friendly home park in Kansas City as well.
