A.J. Davis had 17 points and Andre Nation added 14 as host James Madison beat Towson 75-70 Tuesday in a Colonial Athletic Association contest in Harrisonburg, Va. Marcus Damas scored 19 points for the Tigers, Mike Burwell and Bilal Dixon added 13 apiece, and Jerrelle Benimon had 12 points and 13 rebounds. Dixon also had 13 rebounds for Towson, which saw its four-game winning streak end. The Tigers, who led by seven in the second half, lost even though they won the battle of the boards 44-29. James Madison's Devon Moore hit several key free throws down the stretch and finished 9-for-10 from the line. The Tigers (14-13, 9-5 CAA) went on an 8-0 run to take a 36-32 lead early in the second half on a basket and free throw by Dixon. Dixon scored minutes later to give the Tigers a 43-38 lead with 13:50 left. A basket by Towson's Rafriel Guthrie made it 47-40 before a 3-pointer by Davis cut the margin to 47-43. James Madison (15-12, 9-5) came back and took a 59-58 lead on a tip-in by Moore (13 points, 10 assists). A 3-pointer by Ron Curry made it 64-58 with 2:36 to go. Jerome Hairston was called for a charge with 1:36 to play to give the ball to James Madison, and Nation drove and scored to make it 66-60. Benimon scored for Towson with 48.1 seconds left, cutting the Tigers' deficit to four. Moore hit two free throws to make it 68-62, but Burwell hit a 3-pointer to slice the lead to 68-65 with 36.9 seconds to go. Moore hit two free throws to give James Madison a 70-65 lead, but Burwell made three free throws to pull Towson within 70-68. Moore made two more free throws to give the Dukes a 72-68 lead, and he stole the ball and was fouled. He made two free throws to make it 74-68, but Benimon scored to cut the lead to 74-70 with 11.1 seconds to go. James Madison's Rayshawn Goins hit one of two throws with 9.6 seconds left to make it 75-70, and the Tigers missed three shots in the final seconds. Towson was coming off an overtime win at Georgia State on Saturday, while James Madison lost Sunday night at Drexel. NOTES: Towson won four straight league games for the first time ever, and it entered play Tuesday two games over .500 for the first time since 1995-96. The Tigers' 10 wins away from home are the most since 1993-94 ... Towson plays at Hofstra on Saturday. James Madison plays at Delaware on Sunday ... Hairston averaged 17.3 points per contest in the previous three games. He has earned CAA rookie honors three times this season, the latest honor coming Monday.
