James Madison 69, William & Mary 67

Senior guard A.J. Davis came off the bench to score a career-high 36 points, helping James Madison rally to beat William & Mary 69-67 on Saturday at Kaplan Arena in Williamsburg, Va.

Davis, who entered the game averaging 10.4 points, made 15 of 23 shots from the field and 5 of 10 from 3-point range for James Madison (17-14, 11-7 Colonial Athletic Association).

Sophomore guard Marcus Thornton and junior forward Tim Rusthoven scored 20 points apiece for William & Mary (13-16, 7-11).

Thornton made back-to-back 3-pointers to spark a 20-2 run that put the Tribe up 44-25 with 2:07 to play in the first half. William & Mary led 47-31 at the break.

The Tribe led by 16 on several occasions early in the second half, but James Madison rallied behind Davis.

The Dukes tied the score with 1:33 remaining and took a 67-65 lead when Davis scored with 1:07 to play. The Tribe tied it on a basket by Rusthoven with 48 seconds left, but James Madison regained the lead on two free throws by Devon Moore with 19 seconds to go before Thornton missed a 3-pointer in the final seconds.
