NORFOLK, Va. -- Senior forward Rayshawn Goins
had 16 points and nine rebounds, leading James Madison to a 58-55 victory over Old Dominion in a Colonial Athletic Association opener Wednesday at the Constant Convocation Center.
Goins was held to three points in the first half but came up big in the second half, scoring 11 of 12 points for his team at one point. Goins also had three blocked shots, the first multi-block game of his career.
Freshman Ron Curry
started in place of senior point guard Devon Moore
and had 13 points and four assists for the Dukes (7-6, 1-0 CAA), who won despite shooting 36.4 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from the free-throw line.
Senior forward DeShawn Painter had 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for the Monarchs (2-12, 0-2), who have lost 11 of their last 12 games and two in a row since stunning Virginia 63-61 on Dec. 22. Sophomore guard Dimitri Batten came off the bench to score 12 for the Monarchs, who shot 37 percent from the field and made 6 of 15 from 3-point range.
