James Jones ready to be No. 1 wide receiver in Green Bay

National Football Post

James Jones is ready to be the leader of the pack.

Or at least the No. 1 wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers.

That is what Jones said during an appearance on NFL Network’s “NFL AM” on Tuesday. The Packers will be going through a transition phase on offense. Veteran Greg Jennings is expected to depart via free agency. Wide receiver Donald Driver has already retired and the status of tight end Jermichael Finley seems at least a little bit uncertain. That would leave Jones, Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb as fixtures in the passing game for Aaron Rodgers.

I’m ready (to be the No. 1),” Jones said, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I work hard every year. I’m ready to take in that role if we don’t get Greg back. Hopefully, I can continue to have some success, make some plays and help my team win.”

Jones made 64 receptions for 784 yards and 14 touchdowns last season as Jennings and Nelson both dealt with injuries. All figures were career highs for Jones.
