James Harrison places stipulations on NFL meeting over PED allegations (repost)

Last week we learned that the NFL notified the players named in January’s Al-Jazeera America documentary on performance-enhancing drug use that they will be interviewed on the first day of their respective training camps next month.

At least one of those players isn’t down to play by the NFL’s rules. And it’s no surprise who is putting up the fight.

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison, who along with Green Bay Packers Clay Matthews III and Julius Peppers were the active players mentioned in the AJA documentary (free agent Mike Neal and recently-retired Peyton Manning are the others), posted a statement on Instagram on Sunday listing his stipulations for meeting with league officials:

@NFL I look forward to speaking with you. Goodnight

Harrison tagged the NFL in the post, though it’s unlikely the league cares much for his statement. And it’s highly unlikely league commissioner Roger Goodell will go anywhere near Harrison’s house. In a magazine article a few years ago, Harrison called Goodell a “crook” and a “devil.”

In a letter from NFL vice president Adolpho Birch to NFL Players Association counsel Heather McPhee last week, it was declared that Harrison will be interviewed on the first day of Steelers camp, which is July 29.

But hey, Harrison got it off his chest, and he certainly rallied fans around him based on the comments.
