Jameis Winston says he’s “not a loser”

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston has been mostly everything the Bucs could have asked for when they took him first-overall in 2015. He’s finally given this franchise a young quarterback to build around.

Even though it’s not his fault, the Buccaneers haven’t exactly made a lot of progress. They went 6-10 last season but sit at 3-5 heading into the second half of the season. Winston hasn’t improved much, however.

Many wonder if Winston is lacking confidence, based on his mediocre play through the first half. According to Jenna Laine of ESPN.com, Winston is fully confident in himself right now:

“Losing, I believe … losing is too easy. And I hate easy stuff. I hate easy. Going out there and losing is so easy,” he said. “I want stuff to be hard — that’s why I want to win championships, I want to win games.”

The Bucs’ problems cannot all be pin-pointed on Winston. Doug Martin, one of this team’s few standout players, hasn’t played since Week 2. Mike Evans is the only guy who can consistently get open, and the defense has had a down year after being a top-10 unit a year ago.

“Confidence-wise, it’s easy, because I’m not a loser…We just gotta get over the hump, and I’m going to do what I need to do to help us get over there,” Winston added.

The Buccaneers could have been right back in the playoff picture last Thursday night, but the Atlanta Falcons prevented them from being a half-game out of first in the NFC South. Without any consistency, the Bucs will surely enter another offseason with more changes needed in order to compete.
