Jake Lamb's Final Vote campaign gets endorsement from actual lamb

Over the years we’ve seen some creative campaigning techniques in the All-Star game Final Vote. This season, the Arizona Diamondbacks have taken that to the next level in a literal sense by bringing in a real lamb to endorse the All-Star the candidacy of third baseman Jake Lamb.

Lamb is currently fourth in the National League balloting behind Brandon Belt of the San Francisco Giants, Starling Marte of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Trevor Story of the Colorado Rockies. He’s ahead of Milwaukee’s Ryan Braun, but it’s clear he has some work to do before Friday’s 4:00 p.m. ET deadline.

Lamb’s numbers match up well with his counterparts. He entered play on Wednesday hitting .292 with an NL-leading .617 slugging percentage and 19 home runs. He needs more than that though to overcome the steep competition here.

His biggest advantage may just be the marketing opportunity created by his last name, so that’s the direction Arizona has gone.

If not successful, we’d at least say their attempt has been entertaining.

And maybe a little messy.

But mostly entertaining.

Needless to say, the Diamondbacks are pulling out all the stops to garner some attention and hopefully some votes for Lamb. But it didn’t stop with playing off his last name. They actually made good use of Jake too, spoofing the “Jake from State Farm” ad that we’ve all seen thousands of times.

That ad also featured his teammates and real-life roommates Archie Bradley and Phil Gosselin and was filmed in their actual home. That’s a pretty impressive turnaround considering the Final Vote was only announced on Tuesday.

There’s also this.

If there’s a vote for the best Final Vote campaign, the Diamondbacks are a shoo-in.
