The Jacksonville Jaguars
ruled out quarterback Blaine Gabbert
and four other players for Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos
Gabbert strained his left hamstring in the third quarter of last Sunday's 34-20 loss to the St. Louis Rams
. He also missed two games earlier this season because of a cut on the back of his right hand and the final two preseason games with a fractured right thumb.
Coach Gus Bradley said Monday he did not expect Gabbert to play and he has not practice this week. Chad Henne
, who filled in for Gabbert after he was hurt, will start.
Tight end Marcedes Lewis
(calf), wide receiver Stephen Burton
(concussion), cornerback Dwayne Gratz
(ankle) and defensive end Jeremy Mincey
(concussion) are also ruled out.
Lewis initially sustained the injury before the Jaguars' second preseason game. He aggravated the injury before the season opener and missed the first three games. He returned against the Indianapolis Colts on Sept. 29 but only lasted two plays.
Wide receiver Cecil Shorts (groin) is expected to play Sunday. He did not practice Thursday as a precaution but returned Friday. He leads the Jaguars with 31 catches.
The Broncos are favored to beat the Jaguars by 27 points.
