The Jacksonville Jaguars waived or released 21 players on Friday, trimming their roster total to 54 players.
Veterans released were receiver Jeremy Ebert, defensive end Pannel Egboh, running back Jonathan Grimes, quarterback Mike Kafka, linebacker Brandon Marshall, receiver Charly Martin, offensive tackle Pat McQuistan, offensive guard Drew Nowak, cornerback Kevin Rutland, defensive tackle D’Anthony Smith, linebacker Julian Stanford and cornerback Marcus Trufant.
First-year players waived were receiver Toney Clemons and defensive end Ryan Davis. Rookies waived were defensive tackle T.J. Barnes, offensive tackle R.J. Dill, tight end Ryan Otten, receiver Tobais Palmer, quarterback Matt Scott, safety Steven Terrell and linebacker Mike Zimmer.
The Jaguars have one more move to make before Saturday's NFL cut down deadline of 6 p.m. EST.
“It’s always tough to let go of men that have played such an important role in what we are building here,” Jaguars general manager David Caldwell said in a statement. “We are excited to get the 2013 regular season underway and we will continue to compete on a daily basis to build the best roster possible.”
