JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) -- Avery Moore came off the Jacksonville State bench to score 19 points and help hold off a late charge by Central Michigan and preserve an 82-73 victory Tuesday night.
Undra Mitchem and Darion Rackley scored 17 and 16 points, respectively, as the Gamecocks (5-8) shot a brisk 54 percent (27 for 50) from the field.
The Chippewas (6-5) cut the lead to two points, 62-60, on a pair free throws by Austin Stewart with 4:07 left.
Nick Cook hit a layup to make it a four-point lead and spark an 11-0 run by the Gamecocks. Moore drilled a 3-pointer and added a pair of free throws to fuel the run. Brian Williams dished out nine assists.
John Simons led Central Michigan with an 18-point effort, grabbing a game-high nine rebounds as well. Chris Fowler added 17 points.
