MARTIN, Tenn. (AP) -- Brandon West scored 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead Jackson State to a 68-64 win over UT Martin Friday night.
West, who was 8 of 12 from the field, got help from Julysses Nobles, who also scored 17 points and had five assists. The Tigers (2-4) held a 45-28 rebounding advantage and led most of the game.
The Skyhawks (1-6) carved out an early lead in the first half but couldn't keep it, with Derell Taylor hitting a jumper midway through the half to give the Tigers the lead that it would hold. Jackson State led by as many as 10 points in the second half but UT Martin narrowed the gap in the final minute.
Terence Smith led the Skyhawks with a game-high 23 points, adding seven assists and six rebounds. It was Smith's sixth double-digit performance in seven games.
