Columbus Blue Jackets called up defenseman Nick Holden from AHL Springfield to take the roster spot of defenseman Nikita Nikitin, who went on injured reserve retroactive to Tuesday.
Nikitin sustained an upper-body injury Tuesday in the Blue Jackets' 3-2 loss to the Wild in Minnesota. He sat out the next two games, and he's expected to miss about one more week, the team announced.
Nikitin, 26, has no goals and two assists in seven games this season.
Holden, 25, played five games with Columbus in 2010-11, his only NHL action. He was scoreless in that stint. In 44 games with Springfield this season, he had four goals and 18 assists.
Also, Blue Jackets defenseman James Wisniewski suffered a possible concussion on Saturday, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
The Blue Jackets (3-5-1) play host to the Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday.
