J.J. Hickson: In the Mix for Starting Center Job
Update: Hickson is battling with rookie first-rounder Meyers Leonard and European addition Joel Freeland for the starting center spot with Portland, the Blazer's Edge reports.

Recommendation: On Media Day, coach Terry Stotts held off on naming the starter at center, despite multiple reports in September that Hickson would enter training camp as the No. 1 option. While Hickson's experience alone will likely earn him the gig, he's also played in the frontcourt with All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge, whose elbow jumper and low-post moves he complements nicely on the offensive end with a slashing style. Hickson, who enters camp weighing 252 pounds after shaving off almost three percent of his body fat, should be considered the frontrunner for the job, unless Leonard or Freeland thoroughly impresses in preseason action.
